May 10, 2008: Jim Bishop and MaryLeigh Sanders documented at least two violent tornadoes in Oklahoma and Missouri. One tornado, a violent wedge/stovepipe, destroyed Picher, OK. Another tornado was a long-track wedge across southwestern Missouri. Sadly, 19 people lost their lives on this day a result of this deadly tornadic supercell.

The pic on the left is a surface analysis with the target region highlighted in a purple hatched region.

On the right are the base reflectivity image and storm relative velocity image at time of the Picher, OK tornado. Absolutely insane environment for this supercell storm: ~3,000+ J/kg of CAPE and ~500 m2/s of 0-1km SREH!!!! Environments like this are conducive for violent F4 and F5 (or EF4 and EF5) tornadoes. Check out that insane couplet on SRVEL!

This tornado roped out, while it crossed I-44 and Jim and MaryLeigh continued to chase this deadly tornadic supercell into Missouri and witnessed at least one if not more deadly tornadoes in southwestern Missouri. Remember, this tornado was an amazing event for any storm chaser to have the privilage of witnessing. It is okay for chasers to feel joy in witnessing such and awesome event, but many people were killed by this tornadic supercell. Hopefully, videos like this will help to protect people through education when incredible events such as this occur in the future.
